A huge issue that is very often in newspapers in the issue of climate change. I decided to research into the effect that it would have on the artic and ints wildlife. I chose to use penguins instead of polar bears as when I researched cartoons concerned with the issue, polar bears were very commonaly used in a similar way to how I planned.

War Equipment
I found this political cartoon which follows along the same concepts of the idea I produced about the lack of equipment British soldiers have at war. Using newspaper articles, i found how Important it is for soldiers to have correct equipment and how when they dont, they have to attempt to fix and maintain there own equipment with scraps of metal etc. This makes them alot more vulnerable to injury or even death.
Postal Strike
Headlines in the news this week covered the story of an up and coming postal strike. So I decided to produce a political cartoon on the basis of this topic.
The post box that I have cut out from a newspaper formed my idea of using a closed post box in some way in my cartoon.
I chose to create a cartoon strip to vary the style of my work. This is a preliminary sketch of my how I would like my cartoon strip to look.

I created a post box giving it human characteristics; eyes, a mouth, arms and also gave it facial expression and body language. The body language shows an "I dont care attitude". the kind of attitude that will be shown by the striking postal workers. Using a post box is an obvious identification of what the character is representing.
Mp's Finance
I read an article about the Blair family purchasing their 6th house. This gave me the starting point of my next idea.I started to research into the Bliar familys collection of houses. and came to find more articles about how they continuously buy and sell different houses. This gave me the idea or creating a political cartoon usuing the Game MONOPOLY.
I decided to use some of the family members as the game counters. I used thier two sons Nicky and Euan as they couple have bought houses for them both.
when creating my cartoon I developed more and more ideas of what to include in it. i changed the names of the places on the board to homes that the Blairs' own. I used the monopoly houses to signify that they owned a specific place and also included a for sale sign next to the home they are said to be selling.

Gouvernment Debt
Reading an article in the Daily Express I found an article about the Tory Conference in which George Osborne speaks of Britains debt caused by the Labour Party. The quote "Britain cannot go on like this. We are sinking in a sea of debt was the main influence of my idea.
My initial idea was to create Britain as a character, giving it eyes and a worried expression As it sink in a "sea of debt."
As my ideas developed I decided to express the idea that "Labour is to blame". I chose to create a caricature of Gordan Brown to overlay on the shape of Britain to portray this idea.
I felt much happier with this idea as it seemed to me more poffesional and looked alot more like political cartoons that are used in actual newspapers

War equipment.
Using cuttings from newspapers, I managed to create a draft political cartoon using a collaging method. This political cartoon addresses the lack of equipment avalible for the British troops fighting in Iraq. The soldiers are seen using everyday objects and sport equipment as thier only protection indicating that they do not have correct resources.
The text that accompanies the image is somewhat ironic. As the men stand in wrong equipment, the text explains how it is essential and somehow manages to mock the Britsh gouvernment as their fail to protect the men that are protecting thier country.
